Not a usual #3Home experience
While we had an enjoyable time in St Tropez, and the host Sylvanie was a helpful and excellent tour guide and wonderful source of information on what was “hot locally”, the apartment was very disappointing. Rather than being, as described, “a large townhouse with views over the countryside” it is in reality a small flat, extended into the roof space, above a moke/bike rental shop on a main road some 2 km outside the old town. The only view available is directly over a neglected gulley and we were advised not to (virtually forbidden) to open any of the windows on the roadside due to the dust and noise. The (small) kitchen was not well appointed or designed, there is no access to any garden, the BBQ area had no barbecue or other means of cooking, there are no sun beds or comfortable sun loungers on the tiny patio and the TV was difficult (impossible?) to operate. We were greeted upon arrival with a long list of things we must not do including putting glasses down on the kitchen surfaces as it may scratch them, turning lights off, absolutely no shoes inside, and closing the pantry doors slowly! None of this made us feel very welcome. Only one of the sinks in the master bathroom could be used (the other had a paper sign saying it was cracked and leaked) and the master bedroom lights were intermittently faulty. We were told, in passing, that the gas in the cooker was low but given no idea of how to replace it when it ran out - which it did (very frustratingly) at 11.30pm the first night mid cooking our meal. we did not then have any means of cooking, other than the microwave, until 48 hours later. The sliding door broke (the owner admitted not for the first time) on the second day despite deliberate care. We would like to thank Sylvanie for her efforts but would not return to this apartment again.”
What a wonderful 10 days I spent in France with 2 sisters and a niece! We flew into Paris and spent a couple of days there and then flew from Paris to Nice for our stay in St Tropez. Sylviane, the owner of Beau Site, was great to work with and she gave us so many suggestions of restaurants, beaches, etc..... St Tropez is a great base for traveling around to so many small villages ..... DO NOT miss going to St Paul de Vence ..... the most delightful village I have ever been too! You definitely need a rental car in St Tropez to get around and plenty of Euro coins for all the toll roads and parking fees. The market in town is fun with so many vendors ... also got some great produce there. So much to do on the Harbor in St Tropez .... we ate lots of great mussels and had lots of good wine too! Expect to pay mucho for everything!!! It is definitely the place for the rich and famous on their yachts! Beau Site is very comfortable and clean ..... we thoroughly enjoyed our coffee every morning and late evening wine on the porch ...... a great place and a wonderful owner. Frances Nicholson USA, SC”
We have just returned form a week at Beau Site. The location was perfect 5 minutes from the beaches and all the lovely restaurants/clubs. Also 5 minutes to the main town and Port of St Tropez , which includes the fabulous Tuesday and Saturday markets. Beau Site was immaculately clean, the beds were really comfortable and all the linen was of a great quality. The bathrooms were really modern and the villa was fully equipped with all you need to have a great self catering holiday. Slyvianne who owns the property was always on hand to give advice and recommendations and was such a great help. We were a group of 4 adults and two teenage girls and all of had a fabulous stay at Beau Site. Thank you Slyvianne”
June 29th, 2013 My family and I just returned from a 6 night stay in Saint Tropez via 3rd Home. If you haven't been, it's a must see. If you have been, well, then you know what I'm talking about. We stated at a home called Beau Site, owned and managed by Slyvianne Simmons. She couldn't have better host. Her local knowledge and years of experience there, in addition to her speaking fluent French, helped us immensely. Upon arrival, she gave us a tour of the house and drove us around the area, showing us places to park, the better restaurants and shops, where to get groceries and coffee, and great places to get a drink and people watch. The house is very nice. We were a family of five, two adults and three young adults. We fit comfortably in the three bedrooms. The house is a one story walk up that sits over a couple of shops, one of them being a vintage mini car shop which are available for rent. Great for driving locally around the area. The house is on a main road and is a 5-10 minutes drive to town and the beaches. The interior and furniture in the house is basically white. Sylvianne tries very hard to keep the place as clean as possible, so this house might be better suited for adults and older kids. You will need a car in order to get around. We had a big van which was somewhat difficult to maneuver around the tight, windy, and sometimes, single laned streets. We went at the end of June, which is considered early in the season. We were told it was not very busy compared to what it would be like in July, and especially August. Well, we thought it was crowded when we were there. I can't even imagine what it is like during the high season. If you like shopping, there's plenty of it. Ton's of high end shops at every turn you make. But on Tues and Sat mornings, a parking lot turns into a market from 8am till 1pm. This is not to be missed. Hundreds of venders selling everything from fresh produce, jewelry, art, clothes, and small gifts for your family and friends. The beaches are awesome. They have different beach clubs along an entire strip of sandy beach. All of them slightly different, each with their own feel. One thing they all have in common is that they are all expensive. But the people watching and constant views of so many yatch's made it all worth it.”
We really enjoyed our stay at the Beau Site in St. Tropez but mostly we appreciated the kindness of the hostess Mrs. Sylviane Simmons who was absolutely wonderful. Because this was the first time for us in this area, she was very helpful to suggest special places to go and visit. The surrounding areas are stunning and the morning walk to the bakery for fresh bread was very enjoyable. We highly recommend this place as it is kept beautifully fresh and clean. Sincerely, Jan and Rhoda Jelmby, Florida”
We loved are stay at Beau Site! The property was super clean and spacious and in a perfect location to the village and the beaches. The owner was full of information and helped us out whenever we needed a restaurant suggestion, etc. We would definitely stay there again!”
Great Host, Great Trip, OK Home
When we first arrived, we were a little worried about our choice, of home, given it was right above a bike shop, with no discernible clue it was actually there. But when we were greeted by Sylvanie and shown around on the inside of the house, while she served us some lovely Rose wine, we felt much more comfortable. Having lived in France before, the outside being non-descript is not unusual, but might put off some people. And to be honest, if we had another couple join us as guests, it might have been disappointing. For us on our own, it turned out just great. We wanted to see St. Tropez as the locals see it, and Sylvanie helped us do just that. Sylvanie had some time, and took it upon herself to show us the old village, where we had been before, but she took us to some great places we had never seen. And she took us to some of the 'very cool' beaches the next day, which was something we would likely never have found on our own. The location of her house is great if you are driving, being close to the beaches and old town, and just ok if you are walking, as it is a bit of a hike into town or the beaches (30-45 minutes), but we did it each day. The space inside the house is fine for a couple, or maybe a couple with one or two children. And we found it decorated nicely, although maybe not to the same standard as some of the amazing 3rd Homes we have stayed in. But we were always reminding ourselves, we are in St. Tropez, and some of the 'amazing homes' along the water or near the village were just not options when we wanted to travel. Bottom line - it worked well for us, wanting to spend some quality time in St. Tropez. And Sylvanie was fantastic!”
